How we make money

Contractors pay us for the introduction. When you send a request, we pass it to up to four licensed contractors who cover your ZIP code, and they pay a fee for receiving it. Some pay per lead. Some pay a monthly amount for a share of the volume in their area.

You pay nothing. There is no fee, no membership, no commission and no charge added to your quote. The reason that holds is simple competition: the contractors bidding on your job know that up to three others are bidding as well, and a bid inflated to cover a marketing cost loses to one that is not.

We tell you this plainly because the alternative is worse. Plenty of sites in this industry present themselves as neutral guides and quietly sell the traffic. We would rather you knew the arrangement and judged the information on its merits.

What we guarantee, and what we do not

We do guarantee:

• You will never be charged by us for anything.
• Your request goes to a maximum of four contractors, and to nobody else.
• We do not sell your contact details to list brokers, data brokers or marketing companies.
• We only pass requests to contractors who confirm they hold the licences their jurisdiction requires and carry general liability insurance.

We do not guarantee:

• Any contractor's work, workmanship, timeline, conduct or price.
• That a contractor's licence or insurance is currently valid. We ask; we are not the licensing authority. Verify it yourself.
• That the prices on this site match your quote. Cost ranges here are for budgeting.
• That any contractor will contact you, though nearly all do, and quickly.

Your contract, if you sign one, is between you and that contractor. We are not a party to it. Read the Terms of Use for the full version.

Verify a contractor yourself. It takes ten minutes.

1. Ask for the licence number and check it with the city or county building department that issues it. Colorado licenses at the local level for most trades, so the right office depends on your address.
2. Ask for a certificate of insurance sent directly from the insurer or agent, not a photocopy from the contractor's folder. You want general liability, and workers compensation if they have employees.
3. Check the Colorado Secretary of State business registration. A trade name with no registered entity behind it is a warning.
4. Read reviews with the dates showing. A five-year-old reputation and this year's crew are not the same thing.
5. Get everything in writing before you pay a deposit. Scope, model numbers, permit responsibility, warranty terms, and what happens if the lead time slips.

How we write what is on this site

The cost figures, code numbers and technical explanations here are researched from industry pricing data, building code text and manufacturer documentation, and they are dated. Where a number is a range, we say so. Where a rule changed, we say when.

One example of what that means in practice. The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit under Section 25C, which used to cover part of the cost of efficient windows, was terminated for property placed in service after 31 December 2025 by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. A great many window websites still advertise it. We do not, because a homeowner who budgets around a credit that no longer exists gets hurt by that.
